Homebrew Week 2
Yesterday was a great day of home brewing for me and the roommates. In summery we bottled our first brew, English Brown Ale, and we cooked our second batch. The first brew has been named “Norm’s Elbow Deep Ale” because of an unfortunate dropping of a piece of equipment into the pale. In short we couldn’t fish it out with the spoon. So after two rounds of fermentation we added the sugar and put sealed up the bottles. On the whole the batch turned out much better than I expected and once it sits for two weeks it should taste pretty good. Right now it just tastes thin and lacking the right taste. I expect this will change as it sits in the bottles.
Before we actually got to bottling we started our second batch. A hoppy IPA that included three types of hops and lots of malt. The taste after boiling was really hoppy and I have a lot of great expectations. Its currently in stage one of fermentation where the yeast is going to town. I’ll let you know how the the first batch turns out when we open the bottles in a few weeks.
